Borehole water filtration to remove iron, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield.
This water treatment system is designed and installed by Prosep Filter Services to remove iron, manganese, turbidity (sediment) and bacteria.
This particular property is a barn renovation and the water supplys two properties meaning this borehole is considered a shared supply and is called Regulation 9 supply. A regulation 9 water supply, also called a public supply, needs to have an auto shut off facility in the event of a power cut or UV lamp failure. This protects the occupants as it means no untreated water can be drunk by anybody on the private water supply due to the water automatically being cut off.
The customer wanted a storage of clean water to ensure they had immediate access to a quantity of water in the event of any disruption to their borehole supply so a water storage tank was installed along with a booster pump to guarantee good water pressure throughout both properties.
The high levels of manganese found in this supply gives the water a sikly feel to it.
Sedimental iron in a private water supply can turn the water a orange/brown colour. Dissolved iron is not visible until it oxidises leading you to believe your water is safe to drink To see if you have dissolved iron in your water you can fill a pint glass with water from your supply and leave it to stand overnight. If any iron is present it will have “dropped out” overnight and orange particulate will be visible on the bottom of the glass.
The customer now has, not only clean but, above all else, safe drinking water.
Water Testing
The starting point for any water treatment design is a representative water analysis that is complete and accurate. Using a UKAS Accredited Laboratory. Two of our engineers, here at Prosep Filter Services, have undergone formal training and are now certified to carry out water sampling to UKAS accredited standards.

pH Correction
Water in which the pH is below 7 is acidic. Acidic water accelerates corrosion in pipe work, It can also cause staining on fittings in baths, sinks and other appliances. Acidic water can leave a distinctive ‘metallic’ taste when drunk.
