Borehole Filtration for Manufacturing Facility in North Yorkshire

The Problem
This manufacturing facility required a borehole filtration system capable of handling high water volumes, utilizing up to 150 liters per minute to feed its production line. The site faced challenges with water flow due to elevated sediment levels. During periodic cleaning of the sediment filters, water flow became problematic.
To address this issue, we installed two 3000-liter tanks and a variable speed pump. The filtration system features four sediment removal vessels, controlled by a system controller that adjusts valve openings based on flow rate demands. This setup allows the system to shut off unnecessary vessels during low water demand, enhancing efficiency in both water and energy usage.
The first four filters focus on sediment and ammonium reduction, equipped with chlorine generators that produce chlorine through electrolysis during the regeneration process.
Following the sediment filters, four ion exchange units tackle iron, manganese, and hardness reduction. We installed four of each type—sediment/ammonia and ion exchange units—to manage the production line’s varying flow rates. Both sets of vessels utilize system controllers for optimal performance.
The filtered water then flows through a stainless steel multi-cartridge housing, which removes fine particulates down to 5 microns, before passing through a pair of UV filters. These UV sterilizers ensure the complete elimination of bacteria from the borehole water.

Water in which the pH is below 7 is acidic. Acidic water accelerates corrosion in pipe work, It can also cause staining on fittings in baths, sinks and other appliances. Acidic water can leave a distinctive ‘metallic’ taste when drunk.
