Borehole filtration system for a new build in Halifax
This customer has recently had a borehole drilled and needed to know what contaminants were in the water. The only way to find out this information, for certain, is to have the water sampled. As our engineers are UKAS Accredited, the customer asked if we could attend site, take samples and submit to a UKAS accredited laboratory for testing.
The results of the analysis showed elevated levels of sediment, iron and manganese which were all outside of regulations set by the DWI and shown in the Private Water Supply Regulations. Bacteria, although in relatively small numbers, was also found in the supply. Regulations state that all private water supplies should be free from bacteria. To remove the bacteria we installed a UV along with a prefilter.
A prefilter is always installed before a UV, usually with a 5 micron filter element, to remove sediment from the water prior to it passing through the UV chamber. This ensures all water is treated by the UV light.
Many barn conversions, barn renovations and new builds do not have access to mains water so a private water supply is the only, financially viable, option.

Hard Water
Any water supply that has a high mineral content, may be classed as hard water. The most common minerals that cause hard water are calcium and magnesium. These minerals are picked up by water, as it passes through (typically) limestone rocks, on its way down into the water table.

pH Correction
Water in which the pH is below 7 is acidic. Acidic water accelerates corrosion in pipe work, It can also cause staining on fittings in baths, sinks and other appliances. Acidic water can leave a distinctive ‘metallic’ taste when drunk.
