Expansion and relocation in West Yorkshire. This property had been developed to include a pool/gymnasium, along with an additional new building, which also needed to be included on the existing water supply.

The client also asked us to relocate the system, into a more convenient location.

The existing system, installed by a previous company, did not have the capacity to supply the instantaneous flow requirement, therefore this installation then turned into an expansion.

The Solution

The client was faced with two possible options.

The first was to increase the size of the current filtration system, however, when examining the pump output from the reservoir, it was discovered that the pumping capacity was insufficient to give the flow requirement for effective back washing.

The second option was to incorporate a water storage tank, which gives a buffered supply. The benefit of this is that we could reuse all of the existing treatment, which kept the cost low. We added a variable speed booster pump, after the tank to maintain pressure throughout the entire system. This feeds a manifold block, to prevent preferential flow. After careful consideration and discussion with the client, this was the preferred option and the one we installed.

We installed one of our new range UV-Pro ultraviolet systems followed by a re-circulatory loop that cycles the water around the treatment system every night, so that our customer can come back from their holiday without having to worry about having stagnant water in their tank.

Other Remarks

Our standard procedure when installing a tank fed supply, is to fit ultra violet treatment, both before and after water storage tank. This primary UV prevents build up of bacterial contamination inside the tank, whilst the post tank UV ensures a safe supply to the taps. As this was a new tank install, we supplied one of our new range of UV-Pro ultraviolet systems that incorporates an automatic shut off, to close off the water supply in the event of either- lamp or power failure.

Why is flow rate important?

Different fixtures and appliances need to have a minimum water flow rate. If they don’t receive this (often because of inadequate water pressure) then it’s likely that they won’t work correctly. Equally important is the consideration of pressure being to high: this could cause damage to plumbing fixtures resulting in leakage.
